Food Connections Corps is "Teaching youth to grow
It is a seven week summer apprenticeship program
for twelve high school students to be involved in our Saco Valley Food
connections Project.
The program will provide life skills, job readiness and
personal growth experiences. Students will be trained and inspired to be
leaders in their community about food related issues. Equally as
important, it will teach them to better stewards of the earth.
The Food connection Corps is about more than just food, it's
about raising social consciousness about the food we eat and how it's
grown. It's about asking questions like 'why is it even important to think
about our food's origins?'.
What the corps will do:
- learn all aspects of organic market farming practices
- work with the community maintaining school and senior
gardens
- contribute to local food security by growing and
distributing produce for the local food pantries
- sell produce at the farm store and several farmers' markets
- cook and create fresh new recipes using farm produce
