Senior Programs: Gardens & Farm
Shares
In 2007 we received
a grant from Gorham Savings Bank to start senior gardens at the Stonecrest
AVESTA Housing site in Standish.
In 2008 we started the same project at Elwell Farms
Senior AVESTA Housing in Buxton.
Some of the residents of the Housing Sites come to the farm in
the spring to start their seedlings in our greenhouse. Then when they're
finished with their planting, they help us with ours! Thank you.
An added benefit to the gardens are monthly gatherings where
we teach & discuss produce preparation, recipes, garden techniques,
nutrition, as well as cooking and sampling!
A bit about Senior Farm Share.
Low income seniors are
eligible for $50.00 FREE produce from our farm, after applying and becoming a
member of the program. Produce can be picked up at the farm or at one of
our local farmers' markets. Some limited delivery is possible. We
see our Seniors as part of our farm family. We provide gardening
assistance to them and at their housing sites. This year we plan to invite
them all to our Harvest Dinner. If you know of someone who could benefit
from this program or if you would like to help or donate towards our monthly
gatherings, please let Julee know at the farm by emailing or phoning, her
extension is #2.
